Tucked away on a nondescript side street in Oslo, Himkok - Norwegian for “moonshine” - offers a true adventure for those able to find it. Upon entry, customers find themselves face to face with a distillery that produces 80% of the spirits used in-house, incorporated into different drinks served throughout the building’s distinct themed microbars. On the ground floor, a courtyard patio focuses on local ciders and beers; upstairs a barber shop serves on-tap cocktails, fittingly coined “Taptails.” Beyond the aesthetic and hospitality, on a deeper level Himkok is more than a bar, it’s a true embodiment of Norwegian culture as seen through the lens of cocktails and spirits. The bar’s commitment to sustainable practices - like a greenhouse where all the herbs used in cocktails are grown - earned it the 2018 Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award.
